DIY INFUSED BATH SALTS - Relax ~ Detox ~ Unwind
I don’t know about you, but I usually underestimate the power of a good bath. Every time I wonder why I didn’t take one sooner. Not only are baths great for sore muscles, tired bodies and frazzled nerves, they’re also a potent cure for all sorts of cold weather ailments and illnesses. To give me an excuse to get out of my bath rut and take a nice long soak more often, I upped my game with three different infused bath salt recipes—each perfect for a different time of day.
How to Make Infused Bath Salts
Most bath salt recipes call for a mixture of Epsom salt, sea salt and baking soda, but infused bath salts get their power from essential oils so the list of ingredients is far shorter. And because essential oils carry all sorts of medicinal benefits, I’m sure you can find an oil combination to cure what ails you.
All you need to make these morning, noon and nighttime bath salts is some high-quality salt, your favorite essential oils and several glass jars. Mix it all together and you’re on your way to a better night’s sleep, a clearer mind and a more relaxed body.
Morning
Morning baths are the long-forgotten, blue heron of bath rituals. While it’s often easier to sneak away for a relaxing soak in the late evening after the kids are in bed, the morning shouldn’t be forgotten for it’s prime soaking opportunities. Early in the morning you will need a fresh, invigorating bath to give you a boost of energy, so these bath salts contain ingredients to perk you up and get you ready for the day ahead.
½ cup sea salt 10 drops orange essential oil 5 drops rosemary essential oil
Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container. Whenever you’re feeling in need of a nice, long soak, add a scoop to a warm bath and soak for 20-40 minutes.
Noon
A post-lunch bath is perfect for healing and detoxification. Wait at least 2 hours after your last meal before settling in for a relaxing soak to help your body get rid of toxins and ease an over-burdened system.
¼ cup Pink Himalayan salt ¼ cup epsom salt 15 drops grapefruit essential oil
Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container. Whenever you’re feeling in need of a nice, long soak, add a scoop to a warm bath and soak for 20-40 minutes.
Night
An evening bath will help you relax after a long day and get ready for a restful night’s sleep. Use Epsom salt to relax tense muscles and oils like lavender, chamomile or sandalwood to encourage sleep.
½ cup epsom salt 10 drops lavender essential oil 10 drops chamomile essential oil
Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container. Whenever you’re feeling in need of a nice, long soak, add a scoop to a warm bath and soak for 20-40 minutes.
